Sump Pump Replacement
Sometimes homeowners find their basements and crawlspaces flooded with water. The water may come from the roof or gutters during heavy rains and snowmelts or for many other reasons.
Such cases can lead to property harm due to water damage and mould growth. Fortunately, sump pumps allow you to forget about the worry and enjoy your life carefree from the water logging issues.
However, sometimes they fail and it can be a very costly business to replace the damage!
How Do Sump Pumps Work?
Sump pumps are installed in a sump pit. When the pit fills up during heavy rains or flooding, it activates a switch on the sump pump and turns it on. Most pumps use centrifugal force and an impeller to force the water out of the pit. The check valve in the sump pump prevents water from flowing backward and only outwards.
Types of Sump Pumps
Type #1- Submersible sump pump: As the name suggests, these sump pumps completely submerge in the sump pit. If your house is prone to flooding, a submersible pump can be beneficial for you with its enhanced power. However, they can be costly and are not the best option for those on a tight budget.
Type #2- Pedestal sump pump: Unlike the submersible type, a pedestal sump pump motor does not go into the sump pit. Instead, an extension shaft goes into the sump pit and sucks the water out. They are not costly, but you cannot use them in a heavy rainfall zone. They are best for low-flooding basements and people on a budget.
Type #3- Water-powered sump pump: You may need to find alternative energy source-using sump pumps if your location faces frequent power outages during storms. Water-powered sump pump uses water pressure from the municipal connection to run the motor. Some people also install water-powered sump pumps in addition to submersible or pedestal sump pumps by calling Kingstree Plumbing.
Type #4- Battery backup sump pumps: These are submersible sump pumps with a battery installed inside them. They do not rely on the main electricity line and are an excellent choice as a backup sump pump.
Type #5- Combination sump pumps: These can automatically switch from main electricity to battery in case of a power outage. Combination sump pumps are the best option if you want to protect your basements from flooding entirely.
